ACP supports National Obesity Care Week

Physicians can take action to change the conversation about obesity.

ACP is a supporting organization of National Obesity Care Week, which takes place Oct. 29-Nov. 4. This is a national awareness campaign to ensure that anyone affected by obesity receives respectful and comprehensive care. It was founded by The Obesity Society, the Obesity Action Coalition, Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Physicians can take action to change the conversation about obesity by taking the Take 5 Pledge, intended to inspire action to encourage productive conversations around comprehensive obesity care in ways that support patients and change practice.

ACP offers several obesity-related patient education resources that can facilitate communication between patients and clinicians, including “Make It Happen! Helpful Ways to Lose Weight,” a detailed self-management guide with everyday tips for leading a healthier life, available in both English and Spanish.
