PQRS and Meaningful Use deadline approaching: Act now to avoid financial penalties

Practices have until 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 28 to enter their 2016 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) data and avoid penalties on their 2018 Medicare payments.

Practices have until 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 28 to enter their 2016 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) data and avoid penalties on their 2018 Medicare payments.

Practices that do not report PQRS successfully are at risk for 4% to 6% negative payment adjustments of allowed Medicare Part B charges in 2018. As few as 20 patients per clinician are needed to report.

PQRSwizard is an online registry that guides users though a step-by-step approach to submitting PQRS data to CMS. ACP members can register online for PQRSwizard with a discounted rate.

Feb. 28 is also the last day for Qualified Clinical Data Registries (QCDRs) to submit clinical quality measures for dual participation in the PQRS and Medicare EHR Incentive Program (Meaningful Use) in 2016 and the last day to submit PQRS data using EHR reporting methods. Eligible clinicians who received a penalty in 2017 (based on 2015 reporting) have until Feb. 28 to submit a reconsideration form to claim a hardship exception.

ACP's Genesis Registry is a CMS-approved QCDR and provides seamless integration with participating EHRs to collect and automatically submit quality data measures that satisfy PQRS, Value-Based Modifier, and Meaningful Use directly to CMS.
