The MAVEN Project (Medical Alumni Volunteer Expert Network) is seeking volunteer physician-alumni from U.S. accredited medical schools and training programs to serve the urgent needs of patients with limited access to expert medical care. Volunteers are needed for a spring pilot and beyond.

The MAVEN Project was developed by a group of alumni association presidents of several leading medical schools to address the widening gap in access to medical care and the growing shortage of primary care physicians in the United States. It is now an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

MAVEN plans to use HIPAA-secure telemedicine technology to allow experienced primary care physicians and specialists (especially newly retired, semi-retired or other part-time doctors eager to contribute their expertise) to collaborate and consult remotely with clinicians and patients in overly burdened urban and rural safety net clinics.

Currently, millions of individuals in the U.S. live in underserved communities and doctor shortages are expected to escalate as more than a third of licensed physicians are over 55 and considering retirement in the next several years.
