Certain factors associated with higher mortality risk in invasive group B strep infection
In a study of patients with invasive group B Streptococcus infections, all-cause 30-day mortality was highest for those with peritonitis and pneumonia or empyema and lowest among those with osteomyelitis or joint infection.

Antivirals plus antibiotics may lower risk of hospitalization in some patients with influenza
Although combination antiviral and antibiotic therapy was associated with a significant reduction in respiratory hospitalization risk within 30 days compared to an antiviral alone in this study, that does not mean the combination should be widely used, the authors noted.

COVID-19 outcomes in health care workers and over the long term, vaccine evidence and uptake among the latest research
A study found that health care workers hospitalized with COVID-19 had shorter stays, while a survey showed high uncertainty about vaccination. Johnson & Johnson released efficacy data on a one-shot vaccine, and a study identified long-term decreases in function among COVID-19 survivors.

Recent research looks at remdesivir, steroids, biomarkers for COVID-19
Trials have found some potential benefit from remdesivir, early treatment with methylprednisolone, and measurement of C-reactive protein. Early vaccine trial results and guidance on antibody testing were also recently released.

Latest COVID-19 research on dexamethasone, hydroxychloroquine, a vaccine, tocilizumab
Peer-reviewed details on the recent trial of dexamethasone were released, and two new trials found no benefit to early treatment with hydroxychloroquine. Positive data from a phase 1 vaccine trial were also published, as was another study of tocilizumab.
