Joel S. Levine, MD, MACP, died on Oct. 2 at the age of 73.


Joel S. Levine, MD, MACP, died on Oct. 2 at the age of 73.

He served as Chair of the Board of Regents from 2007 to 2008 and as Governor for the Colorado Chapter from 1997 to 2001. Dr. Levine was also Chair of several ACP Committees and Vice-Chair of the Medical Policy Committee.

After graduating from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in Brooklyn, he completed his internship at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston and his internal medicine residency at the New England Medical Center. Dr. Levine then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora. He also served in the Navy.

Dr. Levine spent 19 years as senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he also served as professor of medicine. Dr. Levine also served for 10 years as head of the division of digestive and liver health at Denver Health, Colorado's primary safety-net system.
