Public comment period open for Women's Preventive Services Initiative

The comment period for several new topics—counseling for sexually transmitted infections, well-woman preventive services, and breastfeeding services and supplies—is Aug. 20 to Sept. 17, 2021.

The Women's Preventive Services Initiative (WPSI) has opened its public comment period for the following topics: Counseling for Sexually Transmitted Infections, Well-Woman Preventive Visits, and Breastfeeding Services and Supplies. Public comment is an opportunity for broad public input that increases the transparency and quality of the WPSI's program and provides an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft report, including offering suggestions for content. The comment period for the new topics is Aug. 20 to Sept. 17, 2021. For timeliness, all comments must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on the final day of the comment period.

ACP is a partner organization with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists on the WPSI, which is a federally funded initiative to develop recommendations for women's preventive health care services. The recommendations, if adopted by the Health Research and Services Administration, will help ensure that women receive a comprehensive set of preventive services without having to pay a copayment, co-insurance, or deductible.

At the conclusion of this new topic public comment opportunity, the multidisciplinary steering committee will review the public comments submitted. If the committee moves the topic forward to the recommendation development stage, a draft will be shared for public comment.
