New College service helps members select office software

ACP members can now get free summary evaluations of office software products.

ACP's Practice Management Center (PMC) has worked with KLAS Enterprises LLC, a leading health information technology survey and evaluation firm, to provide College members product evaluation and comparison data for software designed for electronic medical record, transcription, billing and scheduling, and other office systems.

In return for participating in a brief online evaluation of their own practice's current software, College members can download an unlimited number of free KLAS Online summary reports on individual products in various market categories, including those geared to different practice sizes.

And for groups seriously considering buying a software system, PMC has negotiated the following discounts:

Members will get a 75% discount on subscriptions to KLAS' Platinum Service, which offers more extensive, updated comparison data on the top 20 products in several product categories. With the discount, a small practice would pay $175 for the service.

Platinum KLAS subscriptions include a list of products given "Best in KLAS" awards, as well as the ability to perform side-by-side comparisons of up to five selected products. Performance ratings include primary indicators, which address a product's overall value and quality; detail indicators, which include technical and implementation factors; and business indicators, with ongoing maintenance and support costs.

All ratings are based on actual user surveys, with graphs indicating how individual products compare to others in the same category. Platinum KLAS subscribers also receive client commentaries on product performance, including each product's strengths, weaknesses and market prospects.

Subscribers will also receive a 50% discount off the price of KLAS' two in-depth product report lines: "Perception" and "Ambulatory" reports. These reports, which normally cost between $580 and $880, present the most extensive technical and market information on different products and the software industry.

KLAS' "Ambulatory EMR Study," for example, reports on the top six vendor products, with information on product history, development and strengths, as well as market perceptions and pricing.

To take advantage of the new service, members must first visit PMC's Web site, click on "KLAS" and then complete the brief five to 10 minute practice evaluation. They can then set up their personal access to the electronic KLAS Online reporting tool and begin downloading free product summary reports.

Members may download as many free summaries as they want over the next year.
