Member named CDC director
Julie L. Gerberding, ACP-ASIM Member, was named director of the CDC, the public health agency that is coordinating the nation's bioterrorism response. Dr. Gerberding has been an acting director of the agency and helped lead the investigation into last fall's anthrax attacks. An infectious diseases specialist, she first gained prominence through her studies of health care workers who became infected with AIDS from accidents with sharps in health care settings. She is the first woman to head the agency.
