• Steering clear of pitfalls in physician Web sites The Hi-Ethics Alliance (for Health Internet) and the Internet Healthcare Coalition (IHC) have both published ethical and commercial Internet guidelines. The Hi-Ethics Alliance principles are available at www.hiethics.org, while IHC guidelines are available at www.ihealthcoalition.org.

The Health on the Net (HON) Foundation's Code of Conduct principles can be found at www.hon.ch/HONcode/Conduct.html.

"Guidelines for Medical and Health Information Sites on the Internet: Principles Governing AMA Web Sites" appeared in the March 22/29, 2000 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association at http://jama.ama-assn.org/issues/v283n12/ffull/jsc00054.html.

This year, the AMA adopted "Guidelines for Patient-Physician Electronic Mail." The guidelines can be found at www.ama-assn.org/meetings/public/annual00/reports/bot/bot2a00.doc.
