HCFA official and top educators at New Orleans Annual Session
This year's Annual Session in New Orleans will feature a presentation by HCFA's administrator for health policy and research and a closing session that will feature internal medicine's top clinician/educators.
On Friday, April 23, John M. Eisenberg, MACP, will deliver this year's C. Wesley Eisele Lecture at Annual Session in New Orleans. Dr. Eisenberg, who was appointed administrator of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) in 1997, will talk about who is accountable for outcomes in American health care. Before taking the post at AHCPR, Dr. Eisenberg was an ACP-ASIM Regent and chairman of the department of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center.
On Sunday, as Annual Session draws to an end, the College will hold its Closing Session to help internists distill the most important clinical themes from the meeting's 200-plus presentations. "To make it easy and enjoyable to bottle the 'creme de la creme,' we've asked some of the best clinician/educators in the College to create an unforgettable synthesis," explained Herbert S. Waxman, FACP, the College's Senior Vice President for Education.
The Closing Session's moderator will be Donald E. Girard, FACP, associate dean of Oregon Health Sciences University and chair of the 1999 Annual Session Scientific Program Subcommittee. The session will also feature the following speakers:
- Faith T. Fitzgerald, MACP, from University of California, Davis, who is known for her incisive analysis and compelling delivery;
- Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, FACP, a private practitioner from Atlanta who has been elected College President for the year 2000;
- Jock Murray, MACP, former Chair of the College's Board of Regents and former dean of the Dalhousie School of Medicine, who is a respected teacher of internal medicine and neurology; and
- Allan H. Goroll, FACP, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital and editor of one of the best-selling primary care textbooks.
