Virginia L. Ambrosini, ACP Member, and Kenneth Gould, ACP Member, were appointed to the Southern California Permanente Medical Group Board. Dr. Ambrosini is area medical director at the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center; Dr. Gould is co-director of the HIV clinic at the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center.

James L. Borland, FACP, received the American Gastroenterological Association's 1998 Distinguished Clinician Award for his efforts to combine the art of medicine with scientific knowledge in caring for patients. Dr. Borland is ACP's Treasurer and former director of the Borland-Groover Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He has published more than 20 papers and two medical book chapters on gastrointestinal disorders.

David R. Challoner, FACP, has been appointed to head the University of Florida Institute of Science and Health Policy, which is scheduled to open Sept. 1. The institute will offer programs dedicated to advancing the growth of science and technology. Dr. Challoner is currently the vice president of health affairs at the University of Florida.

J. Stephen Kroger, FACP, has been named internist of the year by the Colorado Society of Internal Medicine. Dr. Kroger is chief executive officer for COLA, a national laboratory accreditation organization.

Allan H. Morris, FACP, has received the Forrest M. Bird Achievement Award from the American Respiratory Care Foundation for his pioneering work in respiratory equipment. Dr. Morris is director of research in the pulmonary division of LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
