Washington, D.C. 20510 Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Senator/Representative (last name):

As an internist practicing in (your city), I am writing in support of the important new
FDA rule that limits children's access to tobacco and reduces the appeal of tobacco
products. As studies show, addiction to tobacco usually begins in early adolescence,
and this addiction is difficult to break. As physicians, we know too well the physically
devastating effects of nicotine.

Given the significance of the FDA Rule, we are concerned that legislative efforts will be
made to weaken its provisions or delay its implementation. We urge you to make every
effort to protect and strengthen the FDA rule and not permit false "compromise"
bills to undermine it in any way. Our nation's children depend on you to protect them.

Please let us know we can count on you to take strong action to assure that no legislation
is passed that will hobble the FDA rule and its implementation.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

(your name).
